Skipping Rocks

Often when we were at a lake or river as a family we would throw rocks into the water.  Sometimes it started as just throwing the rocks as far as we could.  Other times it was seeing if we could throw rocks close enough to a brother or sister to get them wet.  But when Dad was throwing and playing rocks with us, it was always about who could skip the rocks the farthest.  Who do you think always won?

First we would start out by completing with Dad.  We would get the rocks from the shore and count how many skips the rock would take.  Sometimes we had contests with the greatest number of skips.  Other times we had contests with who could skip the rock the farthest.  After we figured out we couldn't beat Dad, we always tried to find the "Best" skipping rocks for him.

We would find what we thought was an amazing rock and say give them to Dad.  He would usually respond, "WOW!  That is a PERFECT skipping rock.  Thanks."  We were so proud to find something for Dad and then watch him actually skip it.

Dad invented wishing rocks.  If a rock had a stripe or a line running all the way around it, you got to make a wish.  If a rock had more than one stripe, you got to make as many wishes as stripes on the rock.  We found some pretty lucky rocks back then :)
